The Chill and Mini-Fest
Mini-Fest started in 2009 and proved to be an outstanding success bringing the community together to share and celebrate the talents and creativity of young people in Worcester. It brought families into their local park and received excellent feedback from the community.
In 2010 we wanted to build on this platform and support this excellent partnership working. We will help the event to grow into something that remains manageable and sustainable and that welcomes work by young people from across the county through the youth service network.
Young people were a big part of organising this year’s event, which was a ‘Beach Party’ theme. This involved spectaulary performances from young people, an ice cream van, mobile skate ramps, a surf simulator and go karts. Young people were involved in documenting the event and interviewing people about mini fest and what their thoughts on the project are.
This year's Mini Fest was held at Cripplegate Park in Worcester on Saturday 26th June, it was a huge success enjoyed by over 2000 people!
The Chill rocked Cripplegate Park in Worcester with live music from great young bands, arts and crafts workshops, face painting, a skate park, an ice rink, t-shirt printing, graffiti and mural painting. Youthcomm Radio broadcast on location the music and atmosphere to their audience.
Documenting the event using photography, film and audio young people from St Johns Youth Centre developed their journalist skills by working alongside industry professionals to cover all aspects of the event.
Young people also played an important part in the management of the event, by supporting Becky Maynard, (the event organiser) and contributing to the organising and planning of the day.
"Young people in Worcester are building relationships and strengthening links with the wider community, challenging the negative stereotyping they sometimes receive through the media'
