Trace and Place Celebration

As part of the Tenbury Annual Mistletoe Festival, the Trace and Place project gave participants the chance to showcase their work on the 4th December 2010 at the Regal Theatre. Trace and Place is an ambitious culture and identity project working with five schools within the Tenbury Pyramid - Bayton, Burford, Lindridge, Tenbury Primary and Tenbury High.

85 children aged 7-16 have worked together over the past six months exploring perceptions of local heritage and cultural diversity through drama, dance, music and media. The aims are based on three key themes:

  • Celebration of local cultural heritage
  • Look at how we belong to the whole country
  • Discuss how we belong to one world

The project has been highlighted to be used as a national case study by The Institue of Community Cohesion (ICoCo) and the final evalutaion toolkit including a DVD created by the children will be promoted to schools across the country.

"This ambitious community and school project has exceeded all expectations. The children have found the opportunity to explore their heritage fascinating and the project has also provided a platform to dispel a number of preconceived prejudices about other cultures, which the children have found empowering. A number of children have expressed an interest in continuing to develop their newly acquired skills in drama, music, dance and media so watch this space!"    Caroline Palethorpe, Project Co-ordinator & Creator
