Abberley Celebration Event

Young people at Abberley Primary School have been working with creative practitioners exploring the theme of ‘Migration’. They began by looking at how and why birds migrate and the continued the project by exploring human migration with a focus on why people move to Abberley.

The children have also worked a local historian and with Jim Heath, a sculptor to create a permanent installation in the school grounds inspired by local history and the personal stories of the community. The sculpture is made from fallen oak and represents the children’s creative ideas inspired by their research. Parents have been able to keep up to speed with the project through podcasts the children have been making documenting the project.

There was a celebration event on Friday 26th March at the school where family, friends and the local community were invited into the school to see all of the children’s work and the sculpture.

Abberley Primary will now showcase and share their work in order to encourage other schools in the Martley pyramid to think about how they would like to get involved with the Arts Extend project.
