Trace and Place, Community Cohesion Project

Tenbury Cluster of schools is 98.6 % white British and although community cohesion is included as part of the citizenship and PSHE curriculum, the Primary School Education Improvement Advisor [EIA] has identified that in one of the local schools there were not sufficient opportunities for children to celebrate multi-culturalism and that it would be advantageous to develop a pyramid festival to explore and celebrate some different faiths and cultures.

Tenbury Community & School Cluster have delivered a community cohesion project over a whole academic year highlighting the local heritage and cultural differences of the rural area. Each school took a part of the project appropriate to their school development requirements and came together to showcase the work at a Youth Art cultural festival at The Regal Cinema on 4th December 2010.

The project focused on all key elements of the "Arts" including dance, music, visual arts, and drama.

As part of the project four children from each school took the role of young documenters and documented the whole project with the support of a professional film maker and photographer. They created a professional film/DVD that can be used in any school/setting in the County/Country, the Institute of Community Cohesion has requested that this project is a national case study demonstrating good practice!

The film that the young people produced can be seen above.
