The Time Capsule
Capturing Malvern 2010
This project is an innovative way of engaging young people, teachers and the wider community in Malvern in the development of the new Malvern Community Hospital. The digital media workshops are designed to enable people to use ‘the tools of our time’ to create and capture podcasts that will be placed in the capsule in the new hospital, it will remain untouched and will only be opened at a special event at the hospital on the 100th anniversary of the NHS in 2048.
The workshops will be fun and practical experiences where people can express their ideas, share stories and learn new skills. They will make short podcasts using film, animation, photography, audio, music, comic life and wordle and all of the software used is simple and free. Supported by professionals the outcomes will provide an excellent representation of Malvern, it’s people and their ideas in 2010 and provide an important historical archive for future generations.
Grove Primary School hosted the first workshop in March, the next workshop will be at Malvern Parish Primary School on Tuesday 15th June. This session will involve working with children and staff from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and a twilight between 3:30pm and 5:00pm for staff and community group leaders.
Young people will also spend a year capturing on film the annual cultural calendar documenting all of the important events and happenings and interviewing local people, getting to the heart of what makes Malvern tick. They will produce a film, 'A year in the Life of Malvern' and showcase their work before placing it in the Time Capsule confining it to a vault in the new community hospital until 2048.
