Stourport Culture Cafe
Stourport High School are set to open a cultural cafe as part of a project working with young Travellers from Stourport.
This project will primarily be a Key Stage Three focus and will involve Stourport Primary and Stourport High School’s Traveller children. There will be a taster day of creative activities in September, where the young people will get to explore new technologies and digital tools.
The young people will continue working with some of these tools as part of a weekly project which will run from September to December 2010. This project will engage young Travellers one afternoon a week as part of the curriculum. During these sessions the young people will use the tools on offer to explore the Traveller culture, their work will culminate in a celebratory exhibition in January 2011.
The aim of the project is to build the confidence of young Travellers and generate awareness of their culture and heritage. The long term aim of the project is to set up a 'Culture Cafe' which will engage all young people from the local area, the culture cafe will allow the young people to explore different cultures each half term. This will open the young people up to other cultures and will also engage the community by opening the session up after school. The young people will run this themselves with the support of teaching advisor, Karen Collins.
