Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Projects
Three projects with young people from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities in Malvern, Evesham and Worcester.
In Malvern a group of young people have created an artistic film with the title of 'The Side You Never See'. The film focuses on things the group identify as important issues to share with their audience about their lives, identities and culture. The participants have been actively involved in all aspects of the film production from camera work to interviewing and editing.
In Evesham a group of teenage boys have worked with a professional photographer in order to learn about photography and creating images. Respect, tolerance, relationships and identity were among the themes, which the boys chose to explore through their photography.
Our third project was in Warndon working with younger children. They used various digital tools and visual arts to create a contemporary take on traditional story telling. Through their tales and stories the children investigated their culture and heritage.
The creative outcomes from the three projects culminated in a multi-media exhibition at the Countryside Centre in Worcester from Friday 4th June to Tuesday 8th June, the exhibition will then travelled the county to raise awareness.
Stourport High School are set to open a cultural cafe as part of a project working with young Travellers from Stourport.
